A new compute island for the Emmy supercomputer is currently being set up in the GWDG’s Modular Data Centre (MDC). This involves the use of state-of-the-art technology which, in addition to significantly increased computing power, enables, in particular, improved energy efficiency.
The new compute island is funded by the National High-Performance Computing (NHR) programme and helps to further expand computing capacity to meet the growing demands of scientific research. This will provide researchers with a powerful tool for complex calculations and data-intensive applications in future.

The closing date for applications is 30 September 2026 for each position.
The GWDG is participating as a consortium partner in the EuroHPC Virtual Training Academy (EVITA) project, which has just reached a major milestone. EVITA has officially launched two public calls as part of its cascade funding scheme: a call for modular training materials and a call for external reviewers. As of 16 June 2026, the European HPC community is invited to apply.
Training providers, research centres, universities, and HPC experts established in EU Member States or EuroHPC associated countries are invited to contribute to develop modular training courses for the EVITA Training Platform. Proposals will have to align with the EVITA Competence and Qualification Framework (CQF) and focus on high-quality, reusable training materials that address key HPC skills needs across Europe.
